Diagnosis /Signs of Pregnancy –

Sign Of Pregnancy

1 POSSIBLE SIGN :

  • Early breast changes (Montgomery tubercles, 2° areola)
  • Amenorrhoea (absence of menses)
  • Morning sickness (vomiting)
  • Bladder irritability (urge to void frequently)
  • Quickening (fetal movement felt by mothers)

2 PROBABLE SIGN :

  • Presence of hCG in urine or blood
  • Hegar sign (softening in the consistency of the uterus)
  • Chadwick’s sign (bluish discoloration of the cervix, vagina, and labia due to increased blood flow)
  • Osiander’s sign (a vaginal pulsation felt at lateral fornices)
  • Uterine growth
  • Changes in skin pigmentation (chloasma gravidarum, striae albicans, linea nigra)
  • Uterine souffle (soft, blowing sound synchronous with the pulse of the mother)
  • Braxton Hicks contractions
  • Ballottement of uterus




3 POSITIVE SIGN :

  • Visualization of a gestational sac by Transvaginal or Transabdominal ultrasound (4-5 week)
  • Visualization of heart pulsation by TVS, TAS (5-6 week)
  • Fetal heart sound by Doppler (11-12 week), stethoscope (20week)
  • Fetal movement palpable (22 weeks)
  • Visualization of a fetus by X-ray (16 weeks)
